Job Title: Literary Consultant (Editor) - 001

Job SummaryThis role entails crafting a tenable writing plan for writers, offering encouragement and support including but not limited to research, editing, and instructional guidance as needed to help clients write quality books. Keep writers on track to completing manuscripts 300 pages or fewer within 12 months or less. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Review manuscripts, book proposals, and other written materials submitted by clients.

  • Provide detailed feedback to clients on the strengths and weaknesses of their writing, including suggestions for revisions, editing, and rewriting.

  • Advise clients on the marketability and commercial potential of their work, including identifying target audiences, competition, and potential publishers.

  • Help clients develop their writing skills by offering guidance on story development, character creation, dialogue, pacing, and other writing techniques.

  • Provide advice on publishing options, including traditional publishing, self-publishing, and hybrid publishing.

  • Assist clients in preparing query letters, book synopses, and other materials required for submissions to publishers and literary agents.

  • Keep up-to-date with industry trends, market demands, and emerging technologies in the publishing industry.

  • Attend conferences, workshops, and other industry events to network with writers, agents, and publishers.

  • Maintain a strong professional network in the publishing industry.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in English, Creative Writing, Journalism, or a related field. Master's degree in English, Literature, or an MFA in Writing is preferred. 

  • Proven experience in editing, writing, and publishing.

  • Excellent knowledge of the publishing industry, including traditional and digital publishing trends, book marketing, and distribution.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to provide constructive feedback and guidance to clients in a professional and diplomatic manner.

  • A passion for writing, literature, and storytelling.

  • Knowledge of literary agents and publishers.

  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.​
